The conference held under the French presidency of the European Union (EU), at the invitation of the French Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, in conjunction with the national platforms of Germany and Switzerland, was attended by participants from seventeen countries of the EU, four other European countries and some countries outside as well as representatives of European institutions and the United Nations.
Various sessions and workshops were held during the three days, tracing the physical setting, history and future of Europe, addressing the risks associated with adaptation to climate change in the most sensitive sites (coastal, mountain, cross-border rivers , cities) as well as educational and economic instruments and partnerships between government (state and local authorities) and insurers. Resilience (i.e. ability to resist and react to some catastrophic events, component of sustainable sevelopment) has been discussed in a roundtable bringing together various sensitivities.
